FAQs
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are used to enhance the length, curl, fullness, and thickness of natural eyelashes. They are usually synthetic, mink, silk or even human hair. The extensions are glued onto the natural lash with a medical grade glue. Don’t worry, ours are synthetic and cruelty free.
Will eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?
Short answer: no. If the extensions are applied well and looked after at home, they will not damage your natural lashes. It’s a two way street, we will use proper application and you follow the aftercare instructions at home and your lashes will be happy. Since your natural lashes constantly shed, the lash extension should just fall off with them. If lashes that are too heavy for the natural lash are applied, they can cause the natural lash to snap off. Damage also occurs if lashes are glued together. If the wearer pick, rubs, pulls or DOES NOT WASH, lashes will suffer damage.
Silk or mink lashes?
At Adorn’d we use both, it depends on the look you would like to achieve.
What is classic?
In a set of classic lashes, the artist will apply 1 eyelash extension to 1 natural lash. It’s a 1:1 ratio. The diameter of those extensions range from 0.03mm (very fine) to 0.2mm (which is much thinker). Here at Adorn’d, we find that most lashes can handle the weight of a 0.15mm lash extension. We do not use 0.2mm lash extensions as they are heavy and look clunky. We love all things fine and fluffy.
What is volume?
In a set of volume lashes, the artist will apply a fan to 1 natural lash. The little fans range from 2 lash extensions joined at the base all the way up to 16. This means instead of a 1:1 ratio, we can now have a 1:2 ratio all the way up to 1:16 ratio. The diameter for volume fans is between 0.03mm and 0.07mm. Volume is great for those who have sparse lashes and struggle to achieve a full look with classics or for the glam girl who really wants to make a bold statement. The fans can be pre-made (called clusters) or hand made by the artist herself.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
We shed between 2-5 lashes a day. What! On average, that’s 21 lashes a week and 63 in 3 weeks. Because each of us is unique, we lose lashes at different rates. Generally speaking your extensions should last up to 6 weeks. However, as the extensions fall off, it will leave your lash line looking sparse, so we recommend a fill every 2-3 weeks depending on the service you choose. Volume lashes can hold out a little longer than classic.
I’m pregnant, can I still get lash extensions?
Yes you can! But, you will be lying on your back and by the time you get to your third trimester it can be very uncomfortable. We can work around this if you let us know in advance when you make your booking. On a side note, during pregnancy our hormones are all over the show which can affect your lash cycle and hence retention.
What do I need to do before my appointment?
It’s simple. Avoid caffeine for 24 hours before (it cause twitchy eyelids). Arrive 5 -10 minutes early. Make sure your eyelashes are clean and free from any makeup. If you would like to use the time to catch up on some listening, have it all ready before we start.
Can I make my eyelash extensions last longer?
The best way to increase retention is to follow our aftercare advice. You can click here to read our favourite tips.
What if I need to cancel, or if I’m running late?
If you are running late, please let us know ASAP. However, if you will be more than 10 minutes late, we will have to cancel your appointment and a cancellation fee will apply. You can read our studio policies here.
